The Houston Astros have had terrible injury luck in 2020, but these three potential trades could help them load up for the playoff push.

The MLB trade deadline is quickly approaching, and with the Houston Astros suffering from a slew of injuries to key players, the front office would be wise to look into their options.

The team has struggled mightily in 2020 after their sign-stealing scandal was exposed, but they still have the talent to contend for a playoff spot with the right additions. If the Astros target these three players, a return to the World Series could be possible.

The Boston Red Sox have been abysmal in 2020, and Martinez looks like a prime trade candidate as a three-time All-Star with an out in his contract after this year, per Spotrac. A reunion with the Astros could make sense for both sides, as Martinez’s services are best suited for a contending team.

Boston punted on any hope of a playoff berth after trading former AL MVP Mookie Betts in the offseason, and Martinez will likely opt out of his contract at the end of the season regardless.

If Houston is willing to send a decent haul of prospects, Martinez could represent a solid upgrade over Michael Brantley at the DH spot. Martinez could be no more than a rental for Houston, but may be the difference-maker that can help the Astros break out of their slump.

With Alex Bregman and George Springer both injured, the team could use another elite presence in the batter’s box, and a trade with Boston could adequately fill that need.
