This time, it looks like the boxing great will be lacing up the gloves to face Logan Paul in a one-off exhibition bout.
According to reports, ‘Money Mayweather’ is poised to put his perfect 50-0 record on the line after signing to fight the controversial YouTube star in a clash that could happen as early as this year.
43-year-old Mayweather, who hasn’t fought professionally since his record-shattering clash with UFC fan favourite Conor McGregor, will undoubtedly receive a huge pay day for going toe-to-toe with Paul.
But while it appears an official contract hasn’t yet been signed on the dotted lines, fellow YouTuber Keemstar revealed that a ‘boxing insider’ had told him of the big news.
He tweeted: “I’ve got some breaking news for you. Floyd Mayweather Jr is coming out of retirement and has just officially signed a contract to fight in an exhibition match against Logan Paul – YouTube sensation Logan Paul.
“I don’t understand the fight. Logan Paul has tried his hand at professional boxing — couldn’t the other nobody [that] nobody’s ever heard of before. [Paul’s] now zero and one.
“He’s going to be fighting one of the best in Floyd Mayweather. It’s going to be a joke of a fight, but it’s signed. It’s official.
“I heard it from a reputable source today and even saw the signed picture of the signed contract where Floyd signed on the dotted line for this exhibition match.”
For boxing die-hards, the prospect of another Mayweather return should probably be taken with a grain of salt.
It’s not the first time talks of a mega-money return for ‘Pretty Boy Floyd’ have spread like wildfire online only for negotiations to break down at the final hurdle.
From rematches with Manny Pacquiao and McGregor to his desired switch to MMA, we’ve lost count of the amount of times Mayweather has teased eager fans with a comeback.
That being said, the 15-time world champ did return to the ring in December 2018 to take on Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in an exhibition fight – one that raised a few eyebrows among spectators for its sheer awkwardness.
And while Mayweather is no stranger to the bright lights of a boxing arena, Paul too shares some experience.
25-year-old Paul has only one professional boxing bout under his belt, having lost to YouTube rival KSI back in 2019 in a spectacle that attracted millions of viewers.
But it goes without saying, 43-year-old Mayweather should have no problem with dismantling Paul if talks of this bout come to fruition.
The only question that remains is what weight they would fight at seeing as though Paul dwarfs the five-foot-six-inch Mayweather – mind you, most people do.
