Everton v Salford City LIVE: Build-up, team news and match action

Salford City travel to Goodison Park this evening to take on Everton in the Carabao Cup.

Graham Alexander’s side booked their place in the second round of the competition after beating Rotherham United on penalties.

The Ammies have a connection to the Toffees, of course, through co-owner Phil Neville, who captained Everton and played more than 300 times for the Goodison Park outfit.

Everton are undoubtedly the favourites for the clash, but there’s always the chance of an upset on the cards in football – and the League Two side will be hoping to do just that.

Before the penalty, Gordon cut in from the left and let fly a dipping effort which cannoned back off the post.

Kean steps up and does a hop before striking the ball, sending the goalkeeper the other way and scoring Everton’s third of the evening.

Sigurdsson nearly gets his second and Everton’s third of the evening with a low drive from outside the box which clips the outside of the post.

Bernard finds Kenny on the edge of the box and his curling effort sails just over the bar for the hosts.

Nkounkou feeds in Gordon down the left hand side who cuts back for a free Sigurdsson who first time shot finds the back of the target.

Henderson gets a head onto a cross from Touray after getting the better of Digne, but cannot direct his effort on target

Nkounkou gets the better of Towell and drives down the left to cross, but both Kean and Walcott can’t get on the end of it.

Wilson’s cross is nodded down by Hunter to Towell in the box who shoots well over. A ‘big chance’, Salford co-owner Gary Neville calls it in commentary.

Gordon’s cross into the box is partially cleared to Bernard whose first time cross blasts wide.

A delightful cross from Sigurdsson is met by Kean at the back post and gets a decent header off but it clips off the bar. A let off for the Ammies.

Touray’s cross from the left is half cleared by the Everton defence and Lowe blasts a wayward shot into the stands.

Salford get the second half under way. No changes made by either side at the break.

The second half will be getting under way at Goodison Park soon as Salford seek a way back into this Carabao Cup tie.

The half-time whistle goes at Goodison Park and Everton lead at the break thanks to Michael Keane’s header.

Salford are still in this but are yet to really threaten the Toffees too much, despite some encouraging signs at times.

A moment of magic from Bernard and the midfielder curls an effort from outside the box which Hladky is at full stretch to parry to safety.

From the resulting corner, Keane meets the ball but is unable to replicate his goalscoring exploits of earlier on and heads wide.

Gordon cuts inside from the left and curls an effort towards goal, and Turnbull heads to safety.

Thomas-Asante attempts to find Wilson in the box but his pass is overhit and Virginia collects.

Walcott picks up possession on the right and drives towards the box from the wing but his effort flies off target.

Salford trail at the half-hour mark and Everton deserve their lead and could well be further in front.

But there have been moments from the Ammies, particularly down the left hand side where they have been getting some joy.
