Out of all the signings who the Blues have snapped up ahead of the 2020/21 campaign, the Moroccan was the first.

Chelsea sealed a deal for him back in February from Ajax and the 27-year-old has had to wait some time to play for the Blues.

Supporters know him well, of course, with his performance at Stamford Bridge in the 4-4 Champions League draw last season.

But to see him in a Chelsea shirt at the AMEX Stadium would have been a big moment for supporters.

With the noise of Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva, Ziyech will actually add something to the Blues they haven’t had in years.

Ziyech is not necessarily the quickest player in the side, but what the winger does possess is a wand of a left foot.

There were two moments on the south coast which showed that off, with the first being the goal.

It was a stunning cross in to Callum Hudson-Odoi, with the ball eventually falling to Werner to net in the fourth minute.

The second was the free-kick in the first half, which he whipped in with real pace, but Werner was unable to keep down.

Not since Juan Mata have the Blues had a player who can give them something different from the wide areas and add a new edge with a left foot.

There is no doubt they have had some quality players in that area before, with Eden Hazard departing last summer and Willian and Pedro having just left.

But Ziyech’s left foot give the Blues something different and cause defences another problem to think of.

On the right flank there was a good combination between the Morocco international and youngster Reece James.

James has some superb crossing ability in his own right, with an excellent delivery when he gets to the byline.

Now with Ziyech, the left side of opposition will not be either to give either player the room to get the ball into the box.

From set-pieces, Ziyech showed what he can do and it will give Lampard options and tactics for how to get the ball in.

There was a worry to see him go off injured in the second half, especially with the start of the season round the corner.

But when he is fit again, he can be a real asset to the club for the upcoming campaign.
