Having led 1-0 for almost 90 minutes courtesy of Mallik Wilks’ fifth minute strike, the Tigers threatened to have their evening spoilt when Ezgjan Alioski slammed home in stoppage time.

A fearless display in the penalty shoot-out saw the Tigers win 9-8 to set-up an enticing tie at West Ham next week.

Matt Ingram: Very little to do in the first half, handling solid when it needed to be and quite frankly, not much changed in the second. A relative onlooker. Made crucial saves in the shoot-out to help City to a deserved victory. 8/10

Lewis Coyle: Looked very settled. Two important tackles early in the second half as Rodrigo threatened for the hosts. Did a fine job in keeping Ezgjan Alioski quiet. 8/10

Callum Elder: Slotted back in nicely. Will be much, much better for the 90 minutes. Tired as the game wore on but never gave up and even slotted home his penalty. 8/10

James Scott: Up and down in the first half, a constant threat and gave Barry Douglas problems. Almost scored an audacious second with a cheeky back-heel 12 minutes from time. 8/10

Alfie Jones: Made a crucial block midway through the first half to block Casey’s goal-bound effort. Tireless performance and helped ensure Leeds rarely threatened. Impressive. Scored the winning spot-kick showing great character. 8/10

Mallik Wilks: Produced a calm finish to see City ahead after five minutes, and in truth, could have had a couple more in the opening exchanges. Proved a constant threat all night, his pace and power a continued source of problem for Leeds. Should really have been walking off with at least a hat-trick. Will have loved it on his return to Elland Road. 9/10

Dan Batty: Reminded me of another Batty, formerly of this parish. All over the park, winning the ball and being a right old pain all evening. Did the dirty work that City needed to be able to spend so much of the night on the front foot. Made a fine tackle late second half which had the City bench on their feel applauding. 8/10

George Honeyman: Calmly laid the ball off to Wilks for the opener, always looked to get on the ball and create. Produced a delightful spin in the second to fashion another half chance. A fine evening’s work. 9/10

Sean McLoughlin: Played sensibly in the first half, made a couple of timely blocks and worked well alongside the McCann’s well-organised defensive unit. 8/10

Greg Docherty: Lively display, looked to exploit the space. Created enough chances for himself to win the game on his own. With sharper finishing, he could have had a goal or two. Thankfully, City were not left to rue his missed chances, but a fine display. 8/10

Keane Lewis-Potter: A delight to watch, plays with such youthful exuberance and energy. One header first half which went over showed his desire to get the ball first. 7/10

Thomas Mayer (for Lewis-Potter 46): Flashed a shot wide, and looked a willing runner. Will have loved his first taste of English football. Scored a penalty in the shoot-out. 7/10

Billy Chadwick (for Wilks 71): Plenty of energy and gave a tiring Leeds backline plenty to think about. Another good experience for the youngster. 6/10

Callum Jones (for Honeyman 81): Provided fresh legs in the top third of the pitch, as City looked to run down the clock. 8/10
