Live A12 traffic updates after air ambulance lands at crash

Traffic on the A12 remains slow after an earlier crash where a car left the carriageway.

The road was briefly shut in both directions so that an air ambulance could land on the carriageway at the scene near Witham, Essex.

An Essex Police spokesperson said: “We were called to reports of a single vehicle collision on the northbound A12 near Witham at around 12.10pm on Wednesday 16 September.

“A vehicle had left the carriageway and a man inside was taken to hospital for treatment.”

The East of England Ambulance Service confirmed that one person was taken to Broomfield Hospital via road.

A spokesperson said: “We sent an ambulance and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance to the A12 between Rivenhall and Kelveden after receiving reports of a collision at around 12.10pm today.

“Crews treated a male patient at the scene before transporting him to Broomfield Hospital by road for further assessment and care.”

They tweeted: “UPDATE-A12 Northbound (1/2) – Partially blocked between J22 (Witham N/B1389) and J23 (Kelvedon S/B1024) following an accident involving a single vehicle. The road was fully closed earlier but one lane is now passing the scene.

Because of the incident, motorists should seek an alternative route, or allow extra time for their journey.

Anyone who saw this incident is being asked to call Essex Police on 101 quoting incident 483 of 16 September or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

We’re just waiting for confirmation from Essex Travel News – Essex County Council’s traffic service – to see if that’s the case.

Essex Police have now confirmed that the reason for the extended closure was because a vehicle left the carriageway.

“We were called to reports of a single vehicle collision on the northbound A12 near Witham at around 12.10pm on Wednesday 16 September

“A vehicle had left the carriageway and a man inside was taken to hospital for treatment.

“If you saw anything, have any CCTV footage, or have any other information please call us on 101 quoting incident 483 of 16 September or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

And now Witham itself is struggling as people try to find an alternative route through the town.

*ServiceUpdate*Service 71 the A12 has now been opened however service 71 is subject to delays due to the closure of the A12 we will get service back to normal as soon as possible.

A quick look at Google Maps shows us just how severe the traffic is on the Northbound carriageway.

The Southbound carriageway is mostly clear after its earlier closure, but its a different story heading towards Colchester.

The East of England Ambulance Service have confirmed that one person has been taken to hospital following the accident earlier this afternoon.

They have said that the 1pm Tollesbury to Witham service was terminated at Kelvedon, and the 1.45pm Witham to Tollesbury service will now start form Kelvedon at 1.59pm.
