The husband of child rapist Mary Kay Letourneau said he “would seek help” if he found himself attracted to an underage girl.
Vili Fualaau made the statement during a taping of Wednesday’s medical gabfest, the Dr. Oz Show.
Fualaau was the 12-year-old student that Letourneau — a teacher and married mother of two — sexually abused and fell in love with and as a result, shocked the world.
“I couldn’t look at a 13-year-old and be attracted to that, because it’s just not in my brain. It’s nothing that I’m attracted to. I mean, we all have our preferences, and that’s just not something that I would go towards.”
When she was finally released from jail, her pre-pubescent paramour was an adult who petitioned the court to allow them to see one another.
But the pair remained under the same roof and continued to be spotted out together around Seattle and happily shared custody with their daughters, Georgia and Audrey.
“I turned over, and I didn’t see her chest moving. I thought it was, maybe, one of those pauses she has, and then she’ll come back. She’ll take a deep breath and she’s going to come back.
“I would count in between those pauses, and it was just the longest count that I had.”
He added: “I turned off her breathing machine just to hear if she was breathing just really soft. At that moment, I had to tell the kids that they need to call the rest of the siblings to come and say their goodbyes. This is it.”
