Michael McIntyre has some regrets about using anecdotes about his wife as part of his stand-up material, namely a tale about her ‘farting all night’.
The funnyman has been married to Kitty McIntyre for 17 years and often speaks about their life together during his routines – and his latest Netflix special Showman is no exception.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Michael shared that while he takes issue with the trumping gag in particular, Kitty allegedly isn’t so fussed.
‘I regret the jokes I made in a previous DVD about her farting in the night because that’s not strictly true,’ he reflected.
‘I regretted those, but she was fine with them. I ran them by her and they were fine.
‘I think it upsets her a little bit when strangers come over and go, “Oh are you the one who farts in the night?” or “Are you the one who can’t pull their tights up?” I don’t think she likes that.
Clearing his conscience further, Michael insisted that Kitty is never made a laughing stock of.
‘Most of the jokes end up me being the butt of them, so apart from occasionally so I think she’s fine with it,’ he continued.
‘The fact that people are laughing means that it’s a reality and people can see themselves reflected in it.
‘My wife is just going to have to sit and take it for the rest of her career.’
Besides taking issue with the fart joke, Michael worried for months over a face mask joke in his new Netflix special.
