NRL 2020 LIVE updates: South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Canterbury Bulldogs at ANZ Stadium

Jed Cartwright just bombed what should have been the try which kept Souths in this match.

Cartwright just had to ground the ball after the Rabbitohs busted the Bulldogs’ line but he tried to step the final defender and lost the ball in the process.

Alex Johnston batted the ball backwards in the contest for a Brandon Wakeham kick and the loose ball fell to Chris Smith – who scored his first NRL try in just his second game this season.

Reimis Smith has been one of the Bulldogs’ best tonight and a big effort to drag Alex Johnston in goal has set up a critical repeat set.

Souths looked like running away with the game when Johnston scored but the Bulldogs have started to play some footy again and the match has turned into an end to end thriller.

Cody Walker is clutching at his right ankle after it copped the full weight of Luke Thompson.

After several sets deep inside the Bulldogs’ half a beautiful cut out pass from Cody Walker found an unmarked Alex Johnston and the recently re-signed winger did the rest.

Adam Reynolds slotted the conversion from the sideline, leaving the score poised at 20-16 after 50 minutes at ANZ.

Referee Ashley Klein sent what appeared to be a very suspicious Campbell Graham four pointer upstairs as a try but the centre clearly lost the ball before he grounded it.

As we all catch our breath after a controversy filled first half, it’s well worth checking out this yarn from Michael Chammas on the Luai family.
