The first offensive play of the 2020 college football season was a touchdown

After months of uncertainty, postponements, cancellations, sniping, protests and, as always, the coronavirus, FCS Austin Peay and Central Arkansas opened the season on Saturday in Montgomery, Alabama.

Following an Austin Peay touchback on the opening kickoff, the Governors instantly scored with a 75-yard run from running back CJ Evans Jr.

That’s a welcome sight for a season that some feared wouldn’t be happening over the summer. Multiple conferences, including the Big Ten and Pac-12, canceled or postponed their seasons as the coronavirus started hitting campuses.

Even the threat of COVID-19 was felt by Austin Peay, which reportedly had multiple key players sidelined because someone they lived with tested positive for the virus.
