One of the victims of a horror helicopter crash in the southern highlands of New South Wales was recently identified as a prominent Victorian businessman. elected city council.
Andrew Goldman, 54, was one of two men killed when the Robinson R44 helicopter crashed in rugged bushland near Tallong.
Goldman was recently elected to the Moira Shire Council and had a large earth moving and civil construction business.
In a statement, the Moira Shire Council said it was devastated to learn of the councilor’s death.
« Cr Goldman was elected to the city council for the 2020-24 term and looked forward to contributing to the improvement and growth of our Shire, » said the city council.
“On behalf of council members and staff, we extend his thoughts to his family at this difficult time.
A search was launched on Wednesday evening when the Joint Rescue Coordination Center was informed of the missing helicopter, which was last seen east of Marulan before disappearing from radar.
NSW Police Rescue Officers had to hike in remote bushland for hours after a flight search was abandoned due to bad weather before locating the crash site shortly after midnight.
Detective Chief Inspector Brendan Bernie said the circumstances of the crash are being investigated by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) and the NSW Police Force.
« The Goulburn ward is a tight-knit group and I am sure they are feeling the pain of this tragic incident, » he said.
Witnesses told 7NEWS they heard the plane fly overhead with no sign of any problems prior to the crash.
The ATSB asks anyone who has seen the aircraft at any stage in its flight or has CCTV or dashcam material to contact it.
A preliminary report will be released within weeks, while a final report will be released upon completion of the investigation.
