The Minnesota Wild have traded veteran forward Eric Staal to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Marcus Johansson.
Staal, 35, has spent the last four years of his career in Minnesota. He recorded 19 goals and 28 assists during the 2019-20 regular season with an additional five points (1G, 4A) in four playoff matchups before the Wild were knocked out by the Vancouver Canucks in the qualifying round.
The veteran forward has one year remaining on his current contract with an average annual value of $3.25 million.
Johansson, 29, registered nine goals and 21 assists in 60 regular-season games with the Sabres after signing a two-year deal with Buffalo in July 2019. He will carry a $4.5-million AAV.
