Footy fans offered mixed reviews of the 2020 AFL Grand Finals pre-game entertainment, two low tempo covers of the Gabba stealing the show

The show started with Electric Fields and Thelma Plum at the Gabba before Mike Brady’s rendition of « Up There Cazaly » was released by the MCG

But attention quickly turned to Cub Sport’s tribute to Powderfinger with a version of “These Days” – which you can watch in the video above

Powderfinger had rejected the chance to play in the grand final, instead promoting Cub Sport as alternative options to celebrate the Queensland music scene

But the decision to play another band’s song – even that of an iconic Brisbane band – didn’t convince everyone

The performance was quickly followed by DMA’S opening their two song set with a cover of Cher’s « Believe »

Band Like A Version reached sixth on Triple J’s Hottest 100 in 2016, but the slow melody – after These Days – failed to excite too many fans at home

The pre-game entertainment was wrapped up with Wolfmother frontman Andrew Stockdale performing « Joker and the Thief », with soccer fans starting to come

Pre-game entertainment may have been questioned if a downpour that sent 40mm of rain in 20 minutes continued into the evening

The bucket left large puddles on the ground, with Sandurski’s team hitting the tools soon after the rain started to subside after 3 p.m.

Hand-pushed super soppers, best known for saving cricket matches, were used to move heavy puddles
