World News – AU – Bronco Brigginshaw wins Dally M player of the year

Brisbane Broncos captain Ali Brigginshaw made history books after being crowned Dally M player of the year at an awards ceremony in Sydney on Monday night

Brigginshaw is the second Broncos player to win the award since the introduction of the NRL Telstra Women’s Premiership and just the third Queenslander overall in the unique six-year history of the medal

The personal career victory is the first major award for Brigginshaw since winning the World Cup final in 2017

The 30-year-old collected 16 votes to beat Broncos teammate Tamika Upton (14), Roosters forward Hannah Southwell (13) and Warriors center Evania Pelite (11) for the prize

A move into a lockdown position under a new offensive structure at the Broncos has proven effective for the Ipswich-born leader this season, with Brigginshaw averaging 165 yards, 166 tackles and 83 running

Brigginshaw proved the difference in Brisbane’s last victory over the Roosters and will lead the team again to Sunday’s LNRL Grand Final at ANZ Stadium, where the Broncos are chasing a third title consecutive

The Dally M medal is awarded to the NRL player Telstra Women’s Premiership and is based on a 3-2-1 voting system throughout the season

Previous winners include Jessica Sergis, who won last year’s award, and Queensland whore Brittany Breayley

Ahead of the first edition of the NRL Telstra Women’s Premiership in 2018, three Dally M medalists were awarded based on players’ efforts at international level

Previous winners in the previous format were Roosters forward Simaima Taufa (2017), Dragons captain Kezie Apps (2016) and Jenni-Sue Hoepper, who was the first winner in 2015

In the evening’s other minor awards, powerful Roosters forward Kennedy Cherrington took home Rebel’s Rookie of the Year award

The 21-year-old was outstanding for the Tricolors in her debut season in the NRLA after switching codes earlier this year – averaging 128 yards and an 86 attacking efficiency rate of 8 %

Roosters teammate Southwell took home the tackle of the year award, while Madison Bartlett’s try against the Dragons won the sidestick of the year title
