CANDIDATES went out of their way to give last minute sweeteners to undecided voters on the last day of the Queensland election campaign

As official polling day is tomorrow, 23,000 people in Mackay have already voted in early voting booths

Mackay MP Julieanne Gilbert interrupted the ballot to sign a “Local businesses, local jobs” pledge

She said the move signified her commitment to supporting small businesses and continuing to work closely with them as the state recovers from the impacts of COVID-19

By signing this pledge, Ms. Gilbert also pledged to ensure that local businesses can take advantage of the 25% minimum target for public procurement of goods and services

The Palaszczuk Labor government has provided cash grants of up to $ 10,000 each to more than 680 small businesses in the Mackay Whitsunday area to help them adjust

Mackay’s Ocean International received one of the funding grants – a huge boost for owner Hannah Guerin during a difficult time

« We called off about five or six weddings in the March to April period alone, » she said

“Obviously we had to lay off a lot of staff; then when JobKeeper arrived it was just a godsend «

M Bonanno said official transportation and major road data showed the value of the LNP’s $ 300 Rego rebate for cars and light commercial vehicles would contribute $ 42.5 million in the Mackay region alone

« Queensland motorists will be able to claim the money online in December and I urge them to spend the money on local businesses before Christmas and New Years, » he said

« If you own a registered vehicle, you will receive the Rego rebate of $ 300 directly to your bank account before Christmas »
