Australia Post is working 24/7 to deliver packages after a weekend of massive online sales and a record holiday season ahead.
After Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, Monday is expected to be the biggest package delivery day ever. More than three million packets are to be received.
« Our people have worked incredibly hard year-round, demonstrating their agility and resilience in managing volumes that we would traditionally have spent months preparing for, » said Rod Barnes, Australia Post’s general manager for deliveries.
Barnes said Australia Post is hiring 5,000 additional staff and putting more delivery vehicles on the road to help with the Christmas mail.
« In a challenging year, we continued to look for ways to improve our service. More than 60 new or repurposed facilities support additional package processing and retail pickup points, « said Barnes.
“In the run-up to Christmas, a new automation system is being made available to our customers across the country.
“We’re hiring 5,000 additional people to serve our customers across the country, we’ve chartered 18 freighter flights and will have 3,000 additional vehicles on the road.
« Due to temporary relief from the authorities, 2700 Posties, including 2000, were delivered in delivery vans. So we are ready to get a record number of packages to their destinations and bring Christmas joy to Australians everywhere. ”
Australia Post has warned customers to get on board early to avoid disappointment with gift delivery this year.
