World News – AU – Hogan’s AFL future hangs on thread after alleged quarantine violation

Jesse Hogan’s future in AFL is uncertain, with Fremantle having a grim view of his latest suspected indiscretion

The enigmatic key forward is under investigation by WA Police after allegedly allowing a visitor into her home last Tuesday, in violation of WA quarantine rules

Dockers were mandated to self-isolate in their respective homes for a fortnight after returning from the Cairns hub where they completed the round trip season

Hogan is now in hotel quarantine There is no doubt that he will be sanctioned by Fremantle if the allegations are proven The problem is how badly the Dockers are going to shoot him

« On September 22, 2020, he allegedly violated these requirements by allowing a woman to enter his home on two occasions He was transported to a Perth hotel for the remainder of his quarantine period, » WA police said in a press release

Hogan, 25, has one year left on the three-year deal he signed on his exchange from Melbourne at the end of 2018

Even if Fremantle decides to keep him on their roster for 2021, the prospect of a club or AFL-imposed suspension leaves his future at Cockburn beyond next year in doubt

Sources familiar with the situation have confirmed that Hogan had a clause in his contract that would trigger a two-year extension with a significantly improved salary if he played around 45 AFL games during his contract period of three years from 2019-2021

Hogan played 12 games in 2019 before his season ended in injury and seven this season, although that can be extrapolated to nine games given the shorter nature of the season Trigger clauses are prorated for 2020 due to the campaign affected by the pandemic

« Our players and staff are all well aware of the restrictions they all must follow when in quarantine and the club’s broader obligation to the community to do so, » said Simon Garlick , Chief of Dockers

« We have worked very closely and effectively with the WA Police, State Government and AFL throughout the year which has brought us to a close and our AFL season

« The cooperation and understanding we have received from all parties over the season is something we do not take for granted. It makes the [alleged] violation even more disappointing and incredibly frustrating

« We will wait until Jesse completes his hotel quarantine before determining what club sanction he will face

« In the meantime, we will reinforce with all players and staff quarantined the importance of strictly adhering to their quarantine protocols »

Hogan was suspended before the first round, 2019 for making « bad alcohol choices » Last November he was involved in a car accident which left him hospitalized He then took leave of the Dockers in January for mental health reasons

He was briefly tested in defense this season, ending the campaign reasonably well with four goals against North Melbourne and a solid display of 13 eliminations against the Western Bulldogs.

Hogan was once considered an emerging AFL superstar, scoring 152 goals in 71 Melbourne games between 2015 and 2018

His time at Demons hasn’t gone smoothly either, with product WA facing an injury, the death of his father, and a testicular cancer diagnosis in 2017
