Victoria records two new cases of coronavirus and no deaths in past 24 hours Melbourne’s 14-day average of new cases now stands at 75

Car enthusiasts of Broken Hill celebrated the end of iconic Holden brand with a car show ahead of the Bathurst 1000 Supercar Championship Race this weekend

Organized by the Broken Hill Veteran Car Club and Silver City Motors, the show, held on Saturday, featured 50 cars at the dealership

Fans of the brand also took photos with the Holden signs at the dealership before the banners were permanently removed

Club president and owner of five Holdens Gavin Farquhar has said he is a long-time supporter of the brand

« We built the first and last Holden sedan we’ll have three epochs of Monaro and basically everything Holden in between, « he says

Parent company General Motors announced in February that the famous brand would be retired by the end of 2021 due to financial difficulties

« It’s sad that they did, but just the way things have turned out financially, and they have to look out for their best interests… it’s all history now, » M said. Farquhar

Silver City Motors will continue to service and maintain vehicles on older models for the next five years and later models for the next ten years

« You will always see them in the streets, don’t get me wrong, you will always see the old maids … in the bush », said M Farquhar

As the Holden era is over, Mr. Farquhar said the essence of the Broken Hill badge will live on

« Older cars that you can go through are rare aftermarket parts or places like this or your friendly friend on the track might have something in his back shed that you need and you might have something that he needs, « he says

« If anyone wants to write a big book on Holden’s story at Broken Hill, you’ll have a few guys lined up to tell stories, for sure »

Senior Silver City Motors dealer Anthony Lind said it was exciting to see locals so eager to show off their piece of history

« Holden is really part of the Australian psyche, it’s part of our folklore, it’s part of our culture, » he said

« There are a lot of passionate people who have the most amazing engineering parts they’ve loved and polished to death in their garages across the far west »

As the Holden production line comes to a halt, locals recall the memories and experiences they had while owning a Holden vehicle

« The number of people who came to take pictures, patted me on the shoulder and said they can’t wait to bring out their pride and joy is just amazing, » said M Lind

« Considering it’s Bathurst weekend, now is the best time to get everyone together to share stories about their Holdens before the signs drop »

Silver City Motors was looking to negotiate another brand of car to replace Holden in the showroom, but nothing had been confirmed
