. .

Mason Mount has urged Chelsea to fight for the Premier League title this season after scooping five straight wins, club just two points away from the top spot.

In the last win against Newcastle, Chelsea briefly topped the table but rivals Tottenham and Liverpool once again overtook the Blues to take third place.

After the Champions League away game against Rennes on Tuesday, the Mount Spurs team will welcome the team to Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

The 21-year-old says his team wants to achieve fame in the league this season and doesn’t just want to be satisfied with a short good time at home and abroad.

« It has always been our goal [to win the title], » Mount said at a pre-game press conference. « We know what we can achieve and we know the level of the players in this group.

« We can never be satisfied with being at the top of the group in the Champions League, going to the top of the league and being close. We can never be satisfied with that. « . We know what we can do and our goal is always to be number 1 and push for titles. We know we can do it.

« The most important thing right now is trying to keep your momentum going. Go from game to game trying to get into each one with the win-win mentality. If you keep doing this, you will go into every game that wants to win.

« We’re in a good place right now, but we can’t get carried away. These are exciting times, but we are so ready to keep working hard. ”

Mount’s 13 starts and 14 appearances for Chelsea are the most common in the squad. This made him the automatic starter for the English national team under Gareth Southgate.

Despite this growing reputation, the local star has once again moved his critics and Lampard to dispel claims that he is favored over his midfielder.

« It’s very easy for someone to sit on the phone and make very harsh statements, » Lampard said. « He may look straightforward on Mason, he’s doing an ad where he’s taking off his top, and I think that’s about as nervous as he can get.

« He’s not doing too many triple transitions or flicks across the back of his head like he shouldn’t. He makes really efficient, clean and sharp passes. He pushes just like any midfielder I’ve worked or trained with and he does 100 things in his game that impress the managers he works for.

« It’s very easy to say [critical things] as he doesn’t have an Instagram role with different movies, but it’s a different kind of football. It’s easy to clip it off, and I’m not saying that. In saying this, I don’t want to stir up the fire of people who say Mason is my son because I know he has a lot to improve.

« This brings you to his attitude and desire to improve. He can score more goals, make more assists, but he’s a good footballer who only gets better. That’s how I feel about him. Mason Mount and none of the players in this roster are my favorites.

« We need competition among everyone in the squad. We have options in midfield and wide areas and nobody gets an advantage from me except my performance. «

This high level of praise from Lampard is appreciated by Mount, who wants to seize every opportunity he gets for both the club and the country.

At Chelsea’s Academy and on his first loan from Vitesse, Mount was primarily identified as the No.. 10 viewed, but increasingly shifts into deeper roles.

Mount admits that he has made subtle changes to his game since playing under Lampard while on loan in the championship with Derby County.

« When I was in the academy I might do a little trick here or there or take a step up, but as you got older I learned in the championship, my first real experience with it, they don’t come always out and seasoned players will read it, « he added.

« You know what you’re going to do and I think the most important thing is getting to the Premier League and Chelsea, getting on the ball quickly and knowing what to do before the ball You come.

« As a midfielder, you will always have the pressure to move the ball quickly. We play in the Champions League and the best league in the world and the ball has to move faster than you.

« I definitely learned that, especially last season. I’ve evolved my game to be quick and know what to do when the ball comes to me. I’ve learned that over the past few years. ”
