Ex-saint Shane Savage blamed the cuts in the AFL list for his shock delisting and stated that he « left the contract at the wrong time ».
Savage, who is the ninth St Kilda player since the end of the season, is already looking for his third AFL club after 56 games for Hawthorn and 109 for the Saints.
« I’m 29, I’m going to be 30, but I feel like a young 30. My body is in good shape. I haven’t been missing much feet from injuries in the past three to four years. The mind is still ready to go. ”
Savage said he was ready to move between states to advance his career and confirmed that he had already spoken to GWS.
« List sizes, I’m not biased, but it may have cost me a spot this year. I no longer had a contract at the wrong time, ”he said.
« I definitely don’t think it was my ability that got me off the list. It was just unfortunate circumstances.
« Me and my family are prepared for the trip. My son is in preparation this year so he can definitely move. We are ready for another adventure. If it means moving between states, so be it. ”
Savage first broke news of his delisting on social media, more than 12 hours before St. Kilda officially released a statement.
« I found out I was delisted last Thursday and I just told the club to let it digest for a few days and spend some time with my family, » he said.
“The whispers got a little louder at the weekend. I thought, ‘You know what? It is probably the right time to post on my terms. « . ”
Savage played all 22 games for St. Kilda, however, only managed two in a « frustrating » 2020 season.
« I felt in really good shape and slammed the door every week, » he said.
« Due to a bit of bad luck, it just didn’t go my way and I didn’t get a chance.
« I’m just glad that the hub work was over and that I was able to play the semi-finals in the end. ”
Savage joins Ryan Abbott, Logan Austin, Jack Bell, Doulton Langlands, Jonathon Marsh, Jack Mayo, Matthew Parker and Ed Phillips as players delisted from the Saints in 2020.
