Cat trainer Chris Scott declares his squad squad for 2020 Toyota AFL Grand Final

GEELONG will take an unchanged squad into the Toyota AFL Grand Final on Saturday at La Gabba as the Cats and Richmond prepare to fight with teams close to the roster

Chris Scott said his hand early in the pre-match press conference alongside Richmond coach Damien Hardwick

Tom Atkins, Zach Guthrie, Esava Ratugolea and Brad Close were emergencies in the Cats’ preliminary final victory over Brisbane last weekend

Scott said he hopes stability plays a role in his team’s performance on Saturday night, but admitted the Tigers are also seated at the selection table

He said the Cats will not waste time trying to predict the weather and adjust their plans for the game, with wild weather expected to hit Queensland ahead of the weekend

The predicted likelihood of a thunderstorm on Saturday put the Cats’ controlled style of play in the spotlight, with Richmond’s chaotic territory play seen to be better suited to likely conditions

« I gave up trying to forecast the weather – I made too many mistakes year after year and it became a bit of a joke with our coaching staff, » Scott said

« In my experience in Queensland, it will rain all night long or it comes and goes really fast There won’t be much in between

« We will think about it of course, but we will not be confused trying to forecast difficult weather conditions to predict »

Hardwick said the strength of cats is a contested ball and it is high time for the two teams to compete for a grand final after a modern rivalry between the two coaches

Scott, it was clear that Richmond had been the best team of the season and the Cats had established early on that « if you want to win the PM job, you’re going to have to beat them »

« We are aware that our system is always going to have to deal with them, and we are confident that it is, » said the coach

« Determining what to do is quite simple Being able to execute it against the best in a pressured situation is much more difficult

« We’re pretty aware of what they’re doing But I think the great teams in history have been pretty transparent It’s pretty easy to see what they’re doing well, it’s just very, very difficult to stop it «

Geelong captain Joel Selwood, who was a member of the Cats ‘premier teams in 2007, 2009 and 2011, said he was envious of the Tigers’ recent success

Beaten by Richmond in last year’s preliminary final, the Cats skipper says it’s his team to end the Tigers race now

« I dream of winning the post of prime minister every year I’m sure it’s the same with Trent (Cotchin), » said Selwood

« I just dream that my team is up there and can enjoy success again We are still monitoring how it goes

« I’ve been envious of what the Tigers have been up to the last few years, so now it’s our guys to take it down »
