Sydney Thunder has reached their second WBBL final after Brisbane Heat lost 6-12 late and what seemed like a definite point decider on Saturday.
The two-time defending champions Brisbane chased 144 after the win and drove 4: 119 before falling apart in a bizarre climax of the semi-finals on Thursday evening.
Teenage Hannah Darlington was the heroine for Thunder at 3:19, including two wickets in as many balls in the 18th. game.
Laura Kimmince used to look like she set up the win for the Heat with 37 balls out of just 17, but she threw her wicket away at a crucial point.
After both Georgia Vole and Amelia Kerr dated 119 in the same run, Kimmince seemed like she was going to bring Brisbane home with her hard blow.
Kimmince struck fearlessly throughout the tournament with a hit rate of over 200 and hit four sixes on the floor.
She was lucky enough to survive her first ball from Sam Bates, which bounced off her body into the stump just to keep the deposits on.
But the match swung again when Kimmince tried to reverse Bates with the heat, which took 15 runs of 19 balls, and was thrown off their pads.
The unannounced South African Nadine de Klerk hit a run-a-ball 27 for Brisbane before taking on Tammy Beaumont’s arm.
Captain Rachael Haynes had previously been the calm head of the thunder and had beaten 48 of 44 balls unbeaten.
The left-handed woman was measured throughout, with her feet matching the spinners, before helping her team get through the crucial 15 runs of Delissa Kimmince’s final.
The victory brings the Thunder into their first final since their victory in the opening season of the 2015/16 tournament.
