Triple J has named Bryce Mills and Ebony Boadu as the new hosts to its breakfast program in 2021.
The pair will replace Erica Mallett and Sally Coleman, who only spent a year in the coveted role before youth radio announced their departure earlier this month.
In a statement posted on Instagram Sunday, Mallett said she and Coleman had reached the « natural conclusion » of their « creative ride. ». .
« The first thing I want to say is that Sally and Erica weren’t disfellowshipped from Triple J, » wrote Mallett.
« In fact, the show went really well. The management and our audience have consistently received great feedback. Until recently, we were all planning a year 2021 when Sally and Erica would grow and grow.
« Sally and I started together when I was 18 and I’m so proud of everything we’ve done over the past eight years – on Triple J, as the [hip-hop duo] Coda Conduct, on [Independent Sydney radio station] FBi, the lot. She’s so smart and inspired and I’ve always admired that. «
I was in high school when I decided to have a Triple J breakfast one day.
Mallett said that despite the strong performance of Sally and Erica, she and her co-host « came together for the natural end of [our] eight-year creative journey » and were grateful for their time on the station.
Mills, 26, started at Sydney Community Station 2SER before moving to Triple J in 2018.
« I was in high school when I decided to have a Triple J breakfast one day, » Mills said.
« It was pretty arrogant of me to make that statement during math class with no idea how I was going to get to Triple J, but here we are. I can’t tell you how proud and excited I am to start this new role and get to know Triple J listeners on an even deeper level. «
Boadu, a 25-year-old hip hop and dance lover, worked for FBi, SBS, and MTV before joining Triple J last year.
As an accomplished DJ, Boadu has played sets at major festivals including Splendor In The Grass and Falls Festival.
« I’ve had the most incredible time in the last two years, spending my Saturday nights DJing [on Triple J’s house party show] and partying with people all over the country, » she said.
« I was so humble and grateful for this opportunity alone, but to be able to wake up to Triple J listeners now and hang out at my dream job every day is still something I try to fully process. I am so excited to have the opportunity to share my new favorite songs, talk to artists I admire, and make thousands of new friends every morning. «
Last year, Mallett and Coleman replaced Ben Harvey and Liam Stapleton, who are now anchoring the breakfast spot at Nova 91. 9 in Adelaide.
Mills will be hosting the Triple J program alone for the remainder of the year. He and Boadu will begin their new roles in January.
