Brayden Smith, the last five-time champion from the Jeopardy era! By Alex Trebek, died on February 5th at the age of 24. A cause of death was not disclosed.

Smith’s December 2020 appearances on the longtime game show were among the last Alex Trebek-hosted appearances recorded prior to the Emmy-winner’s death on November 8 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Trebek called Smith « Billy Buzzsaw » for breaking the competition.

Celebrated on social media as « Alex’s last great champion, » Smith was looking forward to competing in the show’s next Tournament of Champions, reports Las Vegas Review-Journal.

« We are heartbroken to announce that our dear Brayden Smith recently passed away unexpectedly, » his mother Deborah shared on Twitter. « We’re so grateful that Brayden made his dream come true on @jeopardy. »

The game show’s Twitter account quoted Mrs. Smith’s message as saying, « The JEOPARDY! The tragic loss of Brayden Smith breaks the family’s mind Heart. He was kind, funny and absolutely brilliant. Our deepest condolences go to Brayden’s family. He will be missed. « 

As a 2020 graduate of the University of Nevada Las Vegas with a degree in Economics, Brayden intended to go to law Attend faculty and become a federal government attorney.

Brayden is survived by his parents, Deborah and Scott, and brothers Bryce, 26, Brock, 18, and Brody, 15, among others.
