World News – CA – Gabrielle Union and NBC reach ‘out-of-court resolution’ for America’s talent discrimination claim

« NBC Entertainment appreciates the important concerns raised by Gabrielle Union, » a joint statement from the channel and the actress read Tuesday.

Gabrielle Union and NBC reached resolution on allegations of discrimination, nearly a year after she was fired from America’s Got Talent after one season of the show

The channel and representatives of the actress released a joint statement on Tuesday in which they revealed they had « found an amicable resolution » No further details on the deal were offered

« We have reached an amicable resolution NBC Entertainment appreciates the important concerns raised by Gabrielle Union and remains committed to ensuring an inclusive and supportive work environment where people from all walks of life can be treated with respect, » said she read in the press release, obtained by PEOPLE

Last November, it was confirmed that new judges AGT, Union, 47, and Julianne Hough would not be returning for the show’s 15th season, which premiered earlier this year.

Days later, a report from Variety claimed Union had expressed concerns over alleged racial insensitivity on set and that both women said they were subjected to « excessive marks » on their physical appearance.

Union and Hough’s exit from the show launched an internal investigation into NBC and production companies Fremantle, and Syco Entertainment Union has since taken legal action against the two production companies, the media conglomerate and the creator AGT, Simon Cowell, through lawyer Bryan Freedman

« Gabrielle Union informed NBC of offensive racist behavior on taping America’s Got Talent, NBC did not ‘show up’ with her in ‘outrage at acts of racism’ ‘Instead of this, NBC didn’t care enough to quickly investigate Ms. Union complaints or even ask HR to get involved, « Freedman said in a previous statement to PEOPLE » On the contrary, NBC opposed her and directed his « outrage » at Ms Union for speaking out for the racist behavior she suffered while working for NBC on America’s Got Talent «

In a complaint obtained by PEOPLE in June, Union alleged that she was fired from the show after just one season because of « her refusal to remain silent in the face of a toxic culture at AGT which included racist jokes, racist performances, discrimination based on sexual orientation and excessive emphasis on appearances by female judges, including comments related to race ″

NBC has previously responded to Union’s complaint saying, « The allegation that anyone involved in this process threatened Ms. Union is categorically false ″

They added: « We took Ms. Union’s concerns are serious and hired an external investigator who found a global culture of diversity on the show NBCUniversal remains committed to creating an inclusive work environment and solidarity where people from all backgrounds are treated with respect «

In August, Union opened up about the difficult process of breaking away from the popular reality TV contest series, saying the storyline was ″ surprising and so heartbreaking and so frustrating and so unnecessary ″

Union told the ″ Minding Her Business ″ panel for the 2020 American Noir Film Festival that the show’s behind-the-scenes drama made her ″ feel like a public flogging and stand up in my truth and to stand up for employee rights and know there is a better way to do business, ”according to USA Today

« But this whole process was really brutal and knowing that I brought my team into it, it just sucked, » she added at the time.
