World News – CA – Insomniac gives Spider-Man a Tom-Holland makeover in new PS5 remaster

Despite some controversy after its unveiling, enthusiasm is still high for Insomniac’s PlayStation 5 Spider-Man remaster – and the developer has now given a closer look at the improvements to the new one. Sony console – including a rather Tom-Holland-esque makeover for its leading Web-slinging – in November

Peter Parker’s new youthful looks, which you can see in the remastered cutscene below, are part of a « huge update » for the characters in the remaster Insomniac claims he picked Ben Jordan to be the new role model of Peter Parker’s face on PS5 in order to « better match » actor Yuri Lowenthal’s facial capture (and no, you know, to make it more in line with the massively bankable Marvel movies), but other characters also received visual improvements

Insomniac says he expects « higher fidelity skin, eye and tooth shaders » as well as « individually rendered locks of hair, » which he hopes will provide « new life » to familiar characters

Of course, the graphics improvements go way beyond the characters, and Manhattan’s delightfully dizzying playground has also received some notable upgrades as part of the Insomniac remaster. The developer claims to have done « thorough work » on the city to take advantage of the PS5, providing improved models and materials, as well as ray tracing reflections and ambient shadows « It’s wonderful with our new sky and our new weather », enthuses Insomniac

Additionally, the game now « targets a frame rate of 60 fps » when played in Performance mode, and it supports spatial 3D audio, as well as haptic feedback and adaptive triggers via PlayStation 5’s Insomniac DualSense controller also promises « near-instant charging », but notes that gamers can activate the original game’s humorous fast-travel animations if they prefer

Elsewhere, Insomniac says it contains a number of new photo mode features from Spider-Man: Miles Morales, meaning that lights can now be placed around the surroundings to illuminate a photo and Spider-Suits can be switched when everything is equally framed

And on the subject of Spider-Suits, the developer offered a preview of The Amazing Suit, one of three new costumes added to the remaster

Those keen on swinging around Insomniac’s revamped Manhattan can do so by purchasing £ 69.99 / € 79.99 Ultimate Edition of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which includes the remaster, when it launches on the 12th. November Sony previously confirmed that it will not be offering free upgrades for owners of the original Spider-Man on PS4, but said anyone who purchases the standard edition of Miles Morales can get the remaster for an additional $ 20
