(Reuters) – Two-time gold medalist Catriona Le Mae Doan was named Canadian Chef Olympiad at the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing. The Canadian Olympic Committee said on Tuesday.
Lee Mai Duan, a four-time Olympic athlete, became the first Canadian to successfully defend an Olympic title when she skied 500 meters gold at the 1998 Nagano Winter Games and again four years later at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics.
She also served twice as Canada Flag carrier leading the team at the 2002 Opening Ceremony and 1998 Closing Ceremony.
“Catriona enjoys great credibility and respect in sport and the wider community, and is an inspiring and passionate leader for the sport and the Olympic movement,” said Tricia Smith, Chair of the Olympic Games Committee.. .
“As an amazing mentor to many athletes, she will be a great captain for Team Canada in Beijing 2022 as a Chef.
“Between her vast experience in the world of sports, her integrity and the way she lives the Olympic values of excellence, respect and friendship, we are all very fortunate and excited to have Catriona as the chef for Beijing 2022.
Beijing is set to become the first city to host both the Summer and Winter Olympics.
After organizing the 2008 Summer Games, the city will complete the bilateral when it hosts the Winter Olympics starting in February. 4-20, 2022.
