SYDNEY: Australian Claire Polosak made history when she became the first female referee to lead a test match for men as she took on the role of fourth referee in the third test between Australia and India, which will take place on Thursday at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Polosak has joined Australian match officers Paul Reiffel, Paul Wilson, Bruce Oxenford and David Boon on the match control team for the third test of the ongoing Border Gavaskar trophy.

The 32nd Year old already has the distinction of being the first female referee on the field in an ODI game for men in the ICC Division 2 league between Namibia and Oman, which was played in Windhoek in 2019.

Polosak’s international referee career began 2015 with the appointment to the ICC Women’s T20 qualifying tournament in Thailand. This led to her nomination for the T20 Women’s World Cup in India.

In November of the following year, Polosak made her ODI debut for women when Australia played South Africa in Canberra. Polosak was then named to the 2017 50-Over Women’s World Cup in Great Britain.

Polosak was then nominated to the Women’s T20 World Cup in the West Indies in November 2018, including the semi-finals between England and India at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.

In addition to her men’s ODI match, Polosak has set up 17 ODIs for women with another three as third referee and 33 T20Is for women with another five as third referee. Polosak has been a member of the ICC Development Panel of Umpires since 2018 and a member of the CA Supplementary Umpire Panel since 2014/15.

Domestically, Polosak has played three national one-day cup games and has so far fulfilled the third referee duties in Big Bash 13 times.

The current series of four games is currently set 1-1, with Australia winning the first test in Adelaide while India wins the second in Melbourne.
