The visitors stood out in the second half, and were finally rewarded for their pressure in the 83rd minute when Karlan Grant scored his first goal for his new club

Seagulls boss Graham Potter stressed the need for improvement on the attacking front before the game, but his team again lacked a clinical advantage in front of goal

They had a number of opportunities to take the lead, but goalkeeper Sam Johnstone was a game for everyone, until Branislav Ivanovic’s clearance attempt hit Livermore and rebounded into the goal

The home side had the ball in the net in the 15th minute, after Adam Lallana’s cross was stolen by Neal Maupay, but the assistant referee raised the offside flag

The Seagulls had a great chance to take the lead in the 24th minute, before being turned down by Johnstone in his 100th appearance for West Brom

Brighton had quickly pierced Leandro Trossard, who played Lallana behind the Baggies defense before the ex-Liverpool player attacked the ball at Maupay instead of shooting at himself, but the Frenchman’s effort was saved by the outstretched leg of the goalkeeper

The Seagulls’ pressure peaked in the 40th minute, when an attempt by Ivanovic to escape bounced off Livermore and into the back of the net to give the home side the advantage

Brighton played well to create the opportunity, with Lallana’s shot blocked before Tariq Lamptey scooped the ball up and placed it in front of the goal where Ivanovic cleared the ball into Livermore’s head and back net

West Brom looked to gain the front foot early in the second half, and Conor Gallagher had an effort blocked by home defense right after the restart

The Baggies continued to put pressure on the home defense during the second half, forcing Ryan to make another save from Krovinovic

Matheus Pereira had a good chance for the visitors in the 65th minute, coming on a Conor Townsend ball, but he put his effort away from the target, just before Ryan had to parry a shot from the next corner

Pereira also came close in the 76th minute, with the Brazilian pushing the ball from outside the box and his effort cutting just outside the post
