ZIMBABWE skipper Chamu Chibhabha is no stranger to international cricket, especially when you take into account that he is a veteran of over 15 years’ worth of cricket, with over 140 caps combined in the three formats
The 34-year-old is no stranger to Pakistan either, with his current highest ODI score of 99 during the country’s last visit to the Asian country five years ago
Pakistan will host Zimbabwe in Rawalpindi for the first of three ODIs on Friday, a series that will have connotations of the ICC Super League Cricket World Cup
This is Zimbabwe’s first international tour since the Covid-19 pandemic hit, giving it that special feel as the shock of Friday approaches
« We are not allowed to leave our floor of the hotel we are staying in However, these are Covid-19 times and we have to do what we have to do to play cricket
« Security has been fantastic, presidential even, and we were never taken care of the way we were looked after during our stay here
« It gave us time to bond because all we had, during our time here, was each other, » he said.
With the pressure to get results, Chibhabha urged more aggression from his accusations when they walk the park this Friday
From a personal perspective, Friday’s game will give Chibhabha a second chance to improve on his last performance, and not only to achieve better results, but also this elusive ODI century
It’s a feat that lies dormant in the mind of the skipper, with his highest score of 99 from a six-wicket loss to Pakistan in 2015
Zimbabwe lost series 2-0 after third ended to no avail
« Yes, definitely, I have given it some thought, » said Chibhabha on his last visit to Pakistan
« We had a decent tour, but we had no results Now I’m back as captain and the goal will be to lead forward
« This is the message to the boys, and I want us to play a lot more aggressively and desperately to get results
« Everyone has to raise their hands and show their desperation to win, this is something we have talked about at camp and as a team
« Every game will be important, with the Super League of the ICC World Cup, and there will be no room for the beautiful 50’s and 100’s
« We are not here just to be competitive, we are here to win games, » he said.
