Coronation Street icons Vicky Entwistle and Bruce Jones struggled to hold back tears when they reunited for Loose Women on Monday

The actors – famous for playing Les and Janice Battersby on the ITV soap opera – proved they share a special bond as they grew emotional in the interview that brought them together for the first time in years. years

As the host, Coleen Nolan greeted the duo, via a video call, she asked the couple how they felt when they saw each other

Vicky said: « [It’s been] years [since we last saw each other] – four years, maybe five You’re still beautiful! »

Bruce replied: « And you too are absolutely beautiful, you have never changed I am almost in tears looking at you, memories come back »

Bruce – who has been open about his battle with alcoholism, depression and crippling debt – then praised his former wife onscreen for helping him over the years and also thanked her husband Andrew Chapman

He continued: « I owe a lot to Vicky and Andy, I am back in great shape and happy and that made me happier »

Asked about his favorite memory from the soap opera, Bruce said: « The first day we met we gelled It was a good thing for me to have an actress from Vicky’s standard We just gelled and have become « The Battersbys » «

Alluding to the fact that she was there for him during his depressions, he added: « Vicky helped me calm down a lot I just wanted to be an actor but I didn’t think we would be the actors we were «

Vicky began to wipe the tears from her eyes as she listened to Bruce, which prompted Jane Moore to ask her why she was being moved.

She shared, « I think I just saw her little face We had a good laugh We used to be told like you wouldn’t believe They were saying ‘cut’ and we didn’t care what we had to say or do – it was really scandalous

« We were like, ‘We’re going to ruin this program! “We’ve both been watching him separately for years and then all of a sudden he has to butt Curly and I have to yell at everyone We’re like, ‘No one’s gonna love us!’ And to be honest, I don’t think they did! «

Elsewhere in the moving interview, Bruce recounted how he almost left the soap opera when he found out that his characters and Vicky’s were going their separate ways

« I think since day one I never saw this coming when they separated us, » he said

He said he got home and thought about leaving Corrie because he didn’t know how to continue working on the soap opera without Vicky by his side

At the end of the chat, the pair said they’d be eager to get back to the soap opera, but swore they’d only walk the cobblestones if it was both.

Bruce, who appeared on the ITV soap opera between 1997 and 2007, received the boot after allegedly revealing secret storylines

In May 2010 it was reported that Bruce had become homeless after the bank repossessed his £ 500,000 house in Cheshire in order to pay off his large debts

The actor opened up about his battle with depression, speaking on This Morning in 2012

He admitted, « I just started going for a drink and a drink leads to another And then I went to get some advice for that, and I realized if I kept going like this, it there was only one way to go – and that’s in the grave «

Bruce added: « Depression is something where you sit alone and you’re bored, and you don’t talk to anyone and so you go to the pub and drink it and try to laugh »
