TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) – On Monday, Nov.. . 30, Tucson Mayor Regina Romero announced a potential 8 p. m. Curfew to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
The Mayor and Council will vote on the decision at an emergency meeting on Tuesday December. 1. The curfew would go into effect at 8 p.m. that night. m. and go to 5 a. m. with certain exceptions. It should take until December. 22nd.
« It is my responsibility to help protect the health, well-being, and safety of Tucsonans. « said Mayor Romero during a press conference on Monday.
The mayor’s curfew would not require businesses to close, it encourages them to have people out on curfew or earlier. It also encourages people to just stay home. There is a grace period for those going home or leaving a restaurant and it is not quoted.
« I think we will probably shut down again. « . We don’t make money the way it is, and half of the money we make is cut off . . . . eh, â ???? said bar manager Allan Bartels.
The bar recently reopened in November. 13 after finally getting the green light from the Pima County Health Department. Since then, said Bartels, sales have fallen every hour.
Bartels says they received the Paycheck Protection Program loan, but it expired. So they need more help staying afloat. Romero said she urged the council to consider additional economic relief by using funds from the CARES Act and encouraging other leaders to follow suit.
« I would hope that Governor (Doug) Ducey and Congress act as soon as possible to provide additional economic relief to our country. « said Romero.
Even so, there is some irritation for businesses within the city limits as the curfew in Pima County is at 10 p.m.. It feels unfair to Bartels and the Buffett.
???? Close at 8am but then leave all the bars in Pima County open after 8am, will that kill us ???? said Bartels.
Romero said she is urging Pima County regulators to cut their time to 8 p.m.. m. also, but there is still no official word about it.
Right now, companies are counting down the hours until this possible curfew begins, hoping it isn’t their final one.
« ???? This bar has been here for 87 years. It will still be here, but in what form I don’t know? « Said Bartels.
