The Sefton Council has announced that it will fund free school meals for needy children during the mid-term vacation after the government refused to do so

This decision follows the government’s refusal to extend the national policy of free school meals during holidays

On Wednesday evening, Tory MPs and ministers voted against a Labor motion, which would have seen free school meals provided during the holidays until Easter 2021

As a result of the decision, many Southport voters have expressed « disgust » at the decision, and many Sefton businesses have pledged to provide free food to those in need

Earlier today, Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson announced that his cash-strapped local authority would provide essential vouchers to families in the city who will struggle to provide meals for their children during next week’s vacation
