Swansea rose to second in the Championship after beating Stoke 2-0 at Liberty Stadium

Jay Fulton scored his first goal of the season in the 30th minute and Kasey Palmer netted a first goal three minutes from time to condemn Stoke to his first loss in seven games

It’s not since September 20 that Michael O’Neill’s side have tasted defeat as it was their first win in four games for the home side

Swansea got off to a quick start as they sought to banish frustrations from last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Bristol City

A big brace between Connor Roberts and Yan Dhanda bottom right saw the latter get torn apart with a fierce left-footed shot that rocked the post with the game under two minutes old

All the pressure came from the home side and Jamal Lowe went over the bar a few minutes later and then Dhanda got another chance to shine when he was released

This time his touch was too strong and Stoke goalkeeper Adam Davies was able to clear and another golden chance was lost for the home side

As the pressure mounted on the visitors, something had to give way and after half an hour the first goal finally arrived

Center-back Marc Guehi floated over a cross from the left and Davies’ weak punch simply offered the ball to Fulton

The midfielder casually used the outside of his right boot to pick up the ball in the upper left corner to give his team a deserved lead

At the stroke of half time the home side had another good chance to increase their lead, but Roberts threw the free kick from the edge of the box into the wall, then Dhanda sent the shot rebound above the bar

Stoke pushed further in the second half and their first real threat on the home goal came just before the hour mark when James McClean burst into the box to cause unrest

Nothing came of it at the end, nor a corner that was pushed too close to Freddie Woodman moments later

Swansea came close in the 69th minute when substitute goalkeeper Angus Gunn, who replaced Welsh international Davies at halftime, stumbled as he attempted a back pass and had to reach out for prevent the ball from rolling past him towards the goal

Referee Andre Marriner awarded an indirect free kick from seven yards and Andre Ayew’s cannonball shot was blocked by the defensive wall on the line

But Palmer finished the job three minutes before he caught a cross from Jake Bidwell and headed for Gunn for his first goal for the club since signing on loan from Bristol City
