The start date for ITV’s all-new four-part series The Sister has been confirmed – just in time for Halloween
The four-part drama is stripped over four nights in October and promises to be full of murder, intrigue, deception, the supernatural – and, according to ITV, « maybe ghosts »
Starring Flesh and Blood actor Russell Tovey, The Sister is based on Luther creator Neil Cross’s book Burial
The series centers on the character of Tovey – a man with a terrible secret who is (perhaps literally) haunted by the mistakes of his past, and given Cross’s involvement in the drama, we’ll likely be watching The Sitting with our fingers over our eyes
The Sister will premiere on ITV on Monday, October 26, 2020 at 9 p.m., and as a box set on ITV Hub The four-part series will be deleted Monday through Thursday
The series was announced in July 2019 and the first image was released in April 2020
The Sister cast features Russell Tovey as the well-meaning but directionless Nathan, « a man with a terrible secret he begged to stay buried and for whom he worked hard to secure a reward « Tovey has been seen for years and years, Him & Her, Being Human, The History Boys, and Flesh and Blood
He is joined by Bertie Carvel as Bob, an « unwanted face » from Nathan’s past who « shows up at his doorstep with shocking news, triggering a series of catastrophic decisions that lead to a tense and compelling narrative. of psychological suspense, fear and love and possible redemption « Recent Carvel credits include The Pale Horse, Doctor Foster and Baghdad Central
Other actors include Amrita Acharia as Holly, Nina Toussaint White as Jackie, Paul Bazely as Graham, Simone Ashley as Elise and Amanda Root as June
The Four-Part Murder Mystery, written by Neil Cross (Luther, Spooks) and inspired by his novel Burial, follows a man attempting to escape the (potentially literal) ghosts of his past Nathan is a well-meaning man who spent years trying to atone for a terrible secret from his past, involving the disappearance of his wife’s sister, Elsie (Simone Ashley)
However, a decade after his new marriage to wife Holly (Amrita Acharia) and Nathan, Bob, a character from his former life who is somehow linked to Elsie’s disappearance
Bob communicates shocking news to Nathan, resulting in « a series of catastrophic decisions that intelligently drive a tense and compelling tale of psychological suspense, fear, love and possible redemption »
Earlier in October, RadioTimescom exclusively revealed a teaser clip for The Sister where we see Bob looking at a photo of Holly and her missing sister Elsie at Nathan’s house before saying, « Nathan, what did you do? »
The four-part series is based on the Burial book by creator Neil Cross, which in turn was inspired by a nightmare that The Sister creator Neil Cross had in 1985 over the murder of a homeless man. shelter
Speaking to RadioTimescom and other outlets about the real inspiration behind the book, Cross also revealed that he has experienced a « haunting » himself – suggesting the series will involve elements of the supernatural
