Three months after Donald Trump was approved as president, actress Kirstie Alley calls on Twitter to permanently suspend his account.
« After carefully examining the latest tweets from the @ realDonaldTrump account and the context around them – particularly how they are received and interpreted on and off Twitter – we have the account permanent due to the risk of further inciting violence blocked, « the company said in a statement shortly after 6 p.m. Friday evening.
The move didn’t go well with the ex-Cheers star, 69, who called it « censorship » and even compared the ban to « slavery ».
« All people should be concerned is the key here, » she tweeted Saturday morning. « It’s true, the average person will no longer have a platform to express their views. This is called slavery. This censorship proves that BIG TECH now has the keys to the chains. »
The decision to approve Trump ban came after the siege of the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday that killed five people when thousands of pro-Trump supporters unhappy with the elections stormed Congress. For Alley, the DC uprising wasn’t enough, to justify closing Trump’s account compared to a protest against Portland Black Lives Matter last year. « Remember, » Alley went on. « Do you remember all the fires, killings, terrorism, Destruction and yes, to FEDERAL BUILDINGS? It was HIDEOUS & ILLEGAL. Remember how those criminals saved FUNDED &? Nobody was ousted from platforms including politicians who advocated violence. Remember? «
p She later made it clear that she did not apologize for the conduct of DC rioters, adding, « Violating the CAPITOL was a treasonable offense and these individuals should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I DO NOT ACCEPT VIOLENCE, TREASURE, CRIMINAL PROCEEDINGS, OR DESTRUCTION OF LIFE OR PROPERTY. This should suffice as my January 6th stance. “
In addition to Twitter, Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg announced on Thursday that he would ban Trump from using the platform until he left office on January 20th.
