Just months away from their series, both the Lakers and the Rockets have changed their rosters significantly. But the result looks terribly similar.

The defending champions ran against James Harden and Houston in a 120-102 blowout at the Toyota Center on Sunday evening, scoring 32 quick breakpoints. A few days away from a frustrated Anthony Davis who was passionately grilling the Lakers’ defense efforts, the Lakers (8-3) locked the missiles to keep them below 41 percent firing and forced 21 turnovers.

After skipping the game on Friday with a right adductor strain, Davis was on top on both ends, shooting 9 to 12 with 27 points, paired with three blocks all hit in minutes by nasty problems were limited. It was the first time in more than a week that the Lakers had their entire starting line-up intact, and they led the entire second half by 27 points, double digits.

Harden had 20 points and 9 assists, while Christian Wood had 23 points. Related articles

LeBron James (18 points, 7 assists) tossed Kentavious Caldwell-Pope a left-handed three-quarter pass for a transition bucket in the third quarter. But also back-end rotation players like Talen Horton-Tucker (17 points, 3 assists) or Alex Caruso (4 assists) have to look good when they hit the ground.

Three bankers hit double digits when the Lakers bank left their Houston colleagues behind: Horton-Tucker, Kyle Kuzma (13 points) and Montrezl Harrell (16 points).

The Lakers had to do it in no time, Wesley Matthews (aching right Achilles) and Jared Dudley (aching right calf) as late scratches ahead of game time. The rotation had another hit in the first quarter when Markieff Morris was thrown out after getting into a spit with DeMarcus cousins, who cut the Lakers last season to sign Morris.
