The enviable title of best in Queensland hits the line this afternoon as the Mackay Meteorettes face hosts Gold Coast Waves in the finals of the U18 Girls’ State Basketball Championships.

Lukass Blicavs’ meteorettes beat their ticket to the gold medal game with a 73: 52 win over Logan Thunder in the big semi-final on Saturday.

They were later joined by pre-tournament favorites, Gold Coast Waves, sent by the South West Metro Pirates 95-68.

It’s a great blockbuster final between the two best teams in Queensland – both unbeaten so far.

The Meteorettes will likely compete as underdogs against a Waves side that has made it a habit of winning state titles.

The same goes for the U16 meteors, who shocked their rivals on the Gold Coast in a 78-74 thriller in September.

A number of girls on that team will take the seat today to repeat their heroics who won the state championship.
