World news – Tom Thibodeau shouldn’t get all the credit for Knick’s resurgence

The Knicks faced their colleagues from the Western Conference on Friday in the no-name Thunder in the world’s emptiest arena.

On the way to another Knicks lottery trip, something strange happened. Tom Thibodeau’s team have had the best eight-game start in the franchise since 2012-13 – the last time James Dolan’s club made the playoffs.

Thibodeau and his defense made in the NBA in terms of the Defensive efficiency ranks seventh, have received most of the credit. However, ESPN’s new outspoken broadcaster and former Thunder Center Kendrick Perkins promoted the Knicks’ new offense, which was also constructed by Thibodeau.

Thibodeau is finally seeing the light on this end of the court, Perkins claimed. Perkins was the center of the Celtics for three seasons when Thibodeau was Doc Rivers’ assistant coach in Boston.

« In the time he was free in his two years, he’s reevaluated himself and has become one another coach returned, « said Perkins on Thursday in » The Jump « . « Because some of the games they play and some of the freedoms they have on offense, I’ve never seen a Tom Thibodeau team have so much freedom. » But I love it. «

Soon Thibodeau will receive the invention of the synthetic protein for the new vaccine. Seriously, Perkins’ statements on national television deserve further scrutiny before confirming their accuracy.

Yes who have favourited Knicks play faster, hit 3-pointers with greater efficiency and move the ball better than under Jeff Hornacek, David Fizdale and Mike Miller.

But when it comes to X and O and more freedom? Average scoring (104 ppg ) they’re still in 28th place.

The real upward trend are players kicking the clutch (hello Austin Rivers) – not Thibodeau’s brilliant offense.

« I still see pretty vanilla on this end « said former Wizards, Hawks and Raptors scout Bryan Oringher, who posted a two-part scouting report on the Knicks offense and defense on his YouTube channel on Thursday. » But they are definitely defending. «

In the Tat sees the Knicks Cente r Mitchell Robinson no major changes to offensive schematics from year to year.

For the first eight games, Thibodeau kept the same starting five – all returning players, including Robinson.

« That’s one good question, « said Robinson after the shootaround on Friday when asked about the difference between this season’s offense and last season’s. « I think it’s not really any different. We just get tired of the seasons we have. It’s time to improve our game. We just came in with a different mindset and tried. »

He’s a different gamer after his extended bootcamp off-season in Dallas – even if some thorough analysis doesn’t show his impact as much as the naked eye does. (He only occupies 51st place in the all-inclusive ranking of player efficiency. So much for the analysis.)

Randle defends and tears it up offensively with all-star numbers of 23.1 points, 12 rebounds and 7, 4 assists. He also played the second most minutes in the NBA.

Oringher is still not sure whether this Randle is the « fluky » version or the new Randle. The south paw from Texas is playing « out of his damned mind ».

In the comeback win against Jazz on Wednesday Randle was eliminated in the second half and collected 30 points on Rudy Gobert.

« Rudy Gobert has the award Received « Defensive Player of the Year » and Julius didn’t give a st, « Oringher said on video. « He just passed through Rudy – » You are too small to protect me. «

RJ Barrett was so sick of losing his rookie year that he doesn’t care who gets credited for the 5-3 start. Barrett wasn’t specific to Thibodeau’s new offensive machinations, but said he was : « I will say whatever coach Thibs does offensively and defensively works so far. [We’re] really trying to have an emphasis on playing together, moving everyone and sharing the ball. «

Don’t get me wrong, the Knicks were stolen in Thibodeau – and were lucky to have other potential applicants involved in the NBA restart while the Knicks were being eliminated. But let’s guys like returning starting point guard Elfrid Payton more Praise who, as Oringher notes, « is the master of the 8-foot shot ».

And Reggie Bullock, who is healthy again, dropping 3 pointers looking for loose balls, and Barrett, who still doesn’t 3er hits, but does everything else and makes fun of the exclusion from the two all-rookie teams.

Among the newcomers was Austin Rivers Austin Powers. Immanuel Quickley was quick to steal the design to this day – even if he did gets well, Alec Burks continues to transform the Knicks into a decent 3-point shooting club.

Thibodeau showed a knack for sticking to the right players in the fourth quarter – a major Fizdale sin.

But don’t t us to be real too. The players – especially the returnees – make Thibodeau look good too.
