Angostura® introduced new labels with warnings on its latest products Improved labels on White Oak watermelon flavored rum inform consumers of the number of calories per drink and warning signs such as underage consumption , driving under the influence and consuming alcohol during pregnancy

This latest initiative puts Angostura® ahead of many of its international counterparts with the introduction of new labels which will now allow consumers to be better informed about our rum-based products White Oak Watermelon Flavored Rum was launched in August and is the latest addition to Angostura’s rum portfolio.The labels on White Sorrel and Coconut Rums also feature warning signs and a statement of responsibility The warning labels will be introduced on all new products and will be rolled out to existing products over the next year

Angostura (Ag) CEO Ian Forbes says: “This is really a natural progression for us as consumers need to better understand what they buy and drink This has coincided nicely with the launch of several exciting new products from us, such as our White Oak watermelon flavored rum Despite a difficult year for the industry with the pandemic affecting sales, we will continue to work to ensure that these new labels are present on all our brands“Mr. Forbes says that although it is an expensive process, Angostura considers this latest improvement on the labels of its rum-based products to be the company’s duty. He added that Angostura has always shown l example and he hopes other companies will follow as well

The West Indies Rum & Spirits Producers Association (WIRSPA) states that the agreement with producers to improve their labels was reached in mid-2019, with a commitment to be implemented within 24 months, to let the time to adjust packaging and design and integrate new labels

WIRSPA CEO Vaughn Renwick says: “This is a revolutionary commitment from rum brands, like Angostura, as it takes time to design new labels and phase out old stocks and sometimes even the bottles have to be changed It’s an expensive process We are happy to see

that Angostura has already been able to implement the changes on some brands, especially given the enormous financial and logistical challenges posed by the COVID pandemic «
