« There are a number of storms around Queensland right now, particularly in eastern Queensland, » he said

« There is a humid atmosphere in Queensland today which is helping this storm activity move this afternoon »

Storm warning is common for most of Queensland including Wide Bay and Burnett, Capricornia, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Darling Downs and Granite Belt, Central Coast and Whitsundays and the Sunshine Coast

140:00 UPDATE: The Bureau of Meteorology has listed Warwick, Gold Coast, Toowoomba, Brisbane, Dalby, Maroochydore, Gympie, Bundaberg, Gladstone, Emerald, Rockhampton, Clermont, Mackay, Kingaroy, Coolangatta and Ipswich as places likely to be affected by severe thunderstorms in the next few hours

EARLIER: Bureau of Meteorology issued severe thunderstorm warning for central and south-eastern Queensland

This covers Wide Bay and Burnett, Capricornia, the South East Coast and parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields and Forecast Districts of Darling Downs and the Granite Belt.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rains that can cause flash floods in the alert area over the next few hours

The Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advise residents to move their cars under or out of trees, secure loose outdoor items, avoid using the phone during a thunderstorm, beware fallen trees and power lines, seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees

QFES also advised in the event of a flash flood never to drive, walk or cross flood waters.
