World News – UA – ‘Justice for Gerard’: $ 1 million reward for finding the murderer of a schoolboy in WA

The family of Gerard Ross, 11, murdered 23 years ago in Western Australia, have urged the public to come forward and relay information after the state government announced an award for having bring his murderer to justice

Gerard disappeared while walking along Kent Street in Rockingham on his way to a comic book store with his brother, who had skated forward on his roller blades, October 14, 1997

His body was found dumped in a pine plantation, about 12 miles southeast of Rockingham, two weeks later

Police Minister Michelle Roberts on Wednesday announced a reward of up to $ 1 million for information leading to the arrest and conviction of her killer

« Today Gérard should be a young man, perhaps with his own family, » she said on the 23rd anniversary of his disappearance

In a statement, the Ross family said they were grateful to the government for the dramatically increased reward

« As we move into another year without him, we are sadly reminded that someone somewhere knows what happened to our funny and loving handsome boy, » the family said

« On behalf of Gerard’s family and friends on both sides of the world, as well as the community in Western Australia, please introduce yourself and take this opportunity to do Gerard justice »

Ms Roberts said anyone who provided information leading to the murderer’s conviction could be considered gracious or protected from prosecution

Washington State Police said last year that all evidence related to the kidnapping and murder was re-investigated as part of a re-examination of the case Cold
