Bournemouth moved to the top of the championship as two goals in each half ruthlessly defeated Barnsley.
In an open game with multiple openings at either end, the Cherries were leading when Philip Billing found the bottom corner with a low hit from 20 yards.
The hosts should have equalized, but defender Mads Andersen failed to clear his feet in time to deflect Michal Helik’s attempt from six yards and was punished when Dominic Solanke doubled Bournemouth’s lead with a run and a near-post-finish stroke the halftime.
Diego Rico made it 3-0 with a nice free kick, which Barnsley keeper Jack Walton – who was expecting a cross – caught. Sam Surridge took advantage of a mistake to complete the goal with a shot that Walton should have saved.
Missed attempt. Alex Mowatt (Barnsley) left footed shot from outside the box misses to the right. Prepared by Callum Brittain.
attempt saved. Rodrigo Riquelme (Bournemouth) right footed shot from the right side of the box is saved by the goalkeeper in the lower right corner. Prepared by Adam Smith.
