« With the extended weather over the past two weeks, we have been able to count over 50 community members here in Santa Maria who did not have the opportunity to complete the census before the September 30 deadline », said Donna, Census Coordinator of MICOP Olivera « It means we have been able to bring a million dollars to our communities »

MICOP has about 30 hours to get the indigenous community to register for the census and will work twice as hard during this period

Since most of the Mixteco speakers are farm workers, the nonprofit says staff members will be in the farm fields Thursday morning and evening for as many as possible to complete the census
