The goats are trying to satisfy Giannis Antetokounmpo, the warriors fight and the rockets are dealing with two unfortunate stars.
The N. . B.. . ONE. This year’s off-season can be determined as much by the teams of players who can keep it as they can by those who can keep it.
The trading market opened on Monday when Chris Paul joined the Phoenix Suns, and now the free agency is here, with all eyes on Houston and Milwaukee – teams hoping to bring in enough talent to meet the expectations of their biggest stars to meet.
The teams were allowed to start negotiations with free agents at 6 p.m.. m. East time Friday, but the new contracts cannot be signed until 12:01 p.m.. m. Sunday.

The Lakers keep making moves – to get younger and more dynamic. The latest seemed to surprise many, including some players from across the league. Montrezl Harrell, the reigning sixth man in the league of the year, is joining the Lakers on a two-year contract for $ 19 million, according to Rich Paul, his agent at Klutch Sports.
Harrell, a bloody, energetic striker, doesn’t move far – in fact, he doesn’t have to move at all. He spent the last season with the Clippers averaging 18. 6 points and 7. 1 rebounds a game, both career highlights. The Lakers and the Clippers, of course, both play at the Staples Center.
Patrick Beverley, Harrell’s former teammate, seemed to express his displeasure with the news on Twitter: « What, » he wrote, bracketing the word with an emoji of a man slapping his forehead and another an emoji, the cursed. Beverley then tweeted that he was happy for Harrell.
The Lakers now have the best reserves of last season. Harrell and Dennis Schroder, the point guard the Lakers acquired in a trade this week from the Oklahoma City Thunder, took first and second place in the sixth man of the year poll.
Schroder is expected to start for the Lakers this season. Harrell could still get off the bank. Either way, he’ll add extra toughness to the team. Harrell, a selection of the Houston Rockets in the second round in 2015, has also developed a reliable offensive play from the low post.
The N. . B.. . ONE. has opened an investigation into the attempted trade reported by Milwaukee Bucks against Bogdan Bogdanovic of the Sacramento Kings, according to one person with knowledge of the probe.
The league is investigating whether the reported transaction has violated its tamper protection rules, according to the person who was not authorized to publicly discuss the investigation. Then. B.. . ONE. I’ll try to determine whether, as ESPN first reported early Tuesday, the Bucks and Kings had already reached an agreement on a sign-and-trade deal that would bring Bogdanovic to the Bucks – a few days before the free-agent Discussions were allowed to begin.
Adam Silver, the N. . B.. . ONE. Commissioner who pledged in September 2019 that the league would enforce its anti-tampering rules tougher after numerous free-agent deals were released in June 2019 within minutes of the free agency’s start, suggesting it was in Negotiated beforehand. The maximum penalty for a tampering violation has been increased from $ 5 million to $ 10 million and has been set to $ 6 million for teams that have entered into unauthorized agreements with players.
Dragic told The Associated Press that he agreed to a two-year deal to remain with the Miami Heat after leading the team to the N.. B.. . ONE. Final last season.
« Glad to be back, » Dragic told the A.. . P. . “That was my plan to come back, but in this crazy business, you never know. ”
Dragic, 34, had a great season in Miami averaging 16. 2 points and 5. 1 supports a game – mostly from the bank. In the postseason he was an excellent starter averaging 19. 1 point per game when the heat took a deep run into the bladder. But he injured his foot in game 1 of the N.. B.. . ONE. The final and his absence from the point guard went a long way in derailing the Heat’s title hopes against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Bob Myers, the general manager of the Warriors, recalled receiving the bad news from one of Thompson’s agents. It came in the form of a text message:
It was just hours before Wednesday’s draft, and the news quickly spread among Thompson’s teammates and friends in the League, as well as fans who’d chosen the Warriors to put the pieces back together this season for another title hunt was needed.
But that calculation had changed by Thursday when tests showed Thompson – one of the great shooters of his generation and a key tooth in three championship runs – would miss the season after tearing his right Achilles tendon during a practice session in South California.
Thompson, 30, missed the entire final season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in 2019. B.. . ONE. final. Back-to-back seasons for a player in his prime: Gone.
« Watching his journey, watching his growth – nobody deserves this, » Myers said at a press conference Thursday. “He’s the guy who loves basketball. He’s bleeding basketball. ”
Of course the closet is not completely empty for the warriors. Stephen Curry should be back at full strength after missing all but five games with a broken left hand last season. Draymond Green is no fool. And the Warriors expanded their mail presence by using the second overall win in the draft for James Wiseman, a University of Memphis center.
But Thompson’s absence is great – especially in the Western Conference. The Los Angeles Lakers have just won a championship. The Los Angeles Clippers want their own. The Denver Nuggets are a constant threat.
The warriors wasted no time compensating – at least a little – by agreeing to pay for Kelly Oubre Jr. to act. According to two people familiar with the deal who were not authorized to publicly discuss it, the 24-year-old striker was on Thursday from the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for a future first-round selection. Oubre spent his final season in Phoenix, where he averaged the top 18 of his career. 7 points per game when shooting 35. 2 percent from the 3-point range.
The Lakers caused a sensation at the beginning of the free agency by agreeing to a one-year contract with Wesley Matthews for $ 3. 6 million, according to one person briefed on the deal and not empowered to discuss it publicly.
Matthews, a 34-year-old wing, started for the Milwaukee Bucks last season averaging 7. 4 points when shooting 36. 4 percent from the 3-point range.
The Lakers could get a small discount as defending champions. Matthews probably wants a ring and the Lakers are preparing for another title run.
Less than three weeks after serving as president of the Philadelphia 76ers for basketball operations, Daryl Morey is already addressing an area he clearly wanted to improve: the team’s perimeter shoot.
The 76ers negotiated a trade for Seth Curry on Thursday after looking for a deal for Danny Green. The two are seasoned guards designed to help the team place the floor around Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid. There is no doubt that Simmons and Embiid are rising stars. But they haven’t quite figured out how to put it all together when it comes down to it, an issue that was particularly noticeable when the 76ers were swept by the Boston Celtics in the first round of the playoffs a few months ago.
Maybe it helps to play with some teammates who can do 3-pointers. Last season, the 76ers only finished 22nd in 3-point attempts. Place in the league.
To this end, Morey took a few brave steps. First, he agreed to send Al Horford to Thunder as part of a package for Green, according to ESPN. Green, who suffered a hip injury at the Los Angeles Lakers last season, has been largely ineffective in the postseason – but when he’s healthy he’s a reliable perimeter threat.
Morey later sent Josh Richardson and the rights to No.. Tyler Bey from the University of Colorado to the Dallas Mavericks for curry, which averaged 12. 4 points per game last season while a career best 45 is shot. 2 percent from the 3-point range. Curry, whose older brother Stephen stars in the Warriors, happens to be the son-in-law of 76ers coach Doc Rivers.
The Nets are re-signing Harris on a whopping $ 75 million worth of four-year contract, according to one person who was briefed on the contract and was not empowered to discuss it publicly. Harris’ agency confirmed that he had reached an agreement with the team.
After barely playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers in his first two league seasons, Harris recovered from foot surgery in 2016 when the Cavaliers traded him for Orlando Magic, who immediately gave him up.
He eventually ended up on the Nets, which took him to the league minimum. He quickly developed into a reliable 3-point shooter and then continued to develop his game. In 2018, he signed a two-year deal worth $ 16 million.
Last season, Harris averaged 14. 5 points when shooting 42. 4 percent out of the 3-point range, which made him one of the championship leaders. He has arranged himself well for the free hand. The nets would not let him escape.
Harris, a former second round hit, will clear the ground for Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving this season, and his prominence is reflected in his new contract.
