Geoffrey Berman, the former U. . S.. . The Manhattan attorney, who was abruptly fired by President Trump in June, has joined the law firm Fried, Frank, Harris and Shriver & Jacobson LLP, the firm said on Tuesday.
Mr. . Berman, 61, will be based in New York and serve on the company’s governance committee, leading its defense, regulatory and investigative practice. For the past few months he has been visiting professor at Stanford Law School, his alma mater.
Mr. . Berman was the U. . S.. . Attorney for the Southern District of New York from January 2018 to June when his troubled relationship with Attorney General William Barr resulted in a brief altercation over control of one of the most powerful law enforcement agencies in the country.
While Mr.. . Berman’s tenure, the Manhattan U. . S.. . The law firm brought in high profile and politically sensitive cases, including the sex trafficking case of Jeffrey Epstein, who died of suicide in prison in 2019. the prosecution and conviction of attorney Michael Avenatti for extortion by the jury; and the insider case against former Republican Congressman Chris Collins, who pleaded guilty last year.
Mr. . Berman’s office also examined the political and business relationships of two of Mr.. Trump’s personal lawyers, Michael Cohen and Rudy Giuliani. Mr. Berman got out of the case against Mr.. . Cohen.
