Nick Saban had a false positive COVID-19 test earlier this season. This one isn’t wrong, however, and it won’t be on the sidelines of the Iron Bowl.
College football at Brett McMurphy spread the word that Alabama’s head coach Nick Saban tested positive for COVID-19 and will not be able to train in the Iron Bowl matchup with Auburn this weekend.
Nick Saban tests positive for COVID. “This morning we received a notification that Coach Saban had tested positive for COVID-19. He has very mild symptoms, so this test is not considered a potentially false positive. He will follow all appropriate guidelines and isolate at home. ”
The report states that Saban has very mild symptoms, which is some encouraging news but certainly not ideal. According to SEC guidelines, Saban must isolate at least 10 days after symptoms appear and wait at least 24 hours after the fever has ended (without using antipyretic drugs) before his isolation can end. That means, of course, that he won’t be on the sidelines in Saturday’s Iron Bowl matchup against Auburn.
This matchup with Auburn has had a huge impact on both Alabama’s title hopes and her burning desire for revenge. The Iron Bowl’s loss to Auburn last season pushed them out of the college football playoffs for the first time. Auburn is currently 5-2 and is ranked No.. 22 in the last AP poll. Alabama is one of several undefeated teams to make the No.. 1 place in the country.
Alabama can certainly win without Saban, and their talent gives them a distinct advantage over Auburn. But Saban’s absence introduces another uncertain variable into a legacy matchup that carries the weight of the story and is not determined by talent alone. Alabama still has to like their odds, but they’d like them a lot better if they knew their head coach would be healthy for this game and those who come after.
