Nintendo has announced plans to acquire Canadian developer Next Level Games, a studio that has worked on some of the company’s top franchises. Next Level is already a third party partner, which means they only make games for Nintendo platforms. However, according to Nintendo, the acquisition will help secure internal development resources and encourage collaboration. p>
Next Level is based in Vancouver and is probably best known for developing the second and third Luigi’s Mansion games. Luigi’s Mansion 3 in particular is one of the more technically advanced games on the Switch with impressive animation and physics. Other Nintendo projects developed by Next Level include both Super Mario Strikers titles on the GameCube and Wii, Metroid Prime: Federation Force for the 3DS, and the Wii reboot of Punch-Out !!. p>
Financial details of the acquisition have not yet been announced, however Nintendo expects the transaction to close on Jan.. March will be completed. Nintendo will buy 100 percent of Next Level shares and says it should have little impact on earnings this fiscal year. p>
