Each trainer has their own methods to get the best results out of their students. Some tactics work better than others, but New Japan Pro Wrestling has a very strict trainer in Katsuyori Shibata.
41-year-old Katsuyori Shibata no longer wrestles. In 2017, Shibata suffered a subdural hematoma. That was a very scary situation and ended his wrestling career. He is currently training students at the NJPW’s LA Dojo.
Danny Limelight told Fightful Select that Katsuyori Shibata’s teachings are full of « hard love and very rigorous training. ». « Shibata is considered a ‘perfectionist’ and he’s not afraid to step in the ring and show someone how to use a grip.
Katsuyori Shibata doesn’t get physical in the ring, but « he won’t hesitate to step into the ring and show the trainees the handles and walk them through things if he has to. « . ”
NJPW trains its students to become future stars for the company. They have some veteran knowledge to guide these students in the art of strong style. Hopefully Shibata will also help these students avoid the same type of injury that ended his career prematurely.
